SENSORS IN EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS - with Liz Bagshaw, Alex Beaton, Jemma Wadham and Martyn Tranter

Next Generation of Chemical Sensors Masterclass

Are you interested in new techniques for measuring the biogeochemistry of meltwaters? Come along to this workshop to learn about cutting-edge sensors for a range of parameters including nitrate, iron, pH and oxygen. You’ll have a chance to meet sensor developers in academia and industry, including representatives from the National Oceanography Centre and manufacturers including Wavelength Environmental and Campbell Scientific . A range of sensors will be on display at hands-on exhibits, so you can have a go at measuring chemical changes in meltwater and see what happens when the sensors freeze.

Lunch will be provided at this World Universities Network and Bristol Institute of Advanced Studies sponsored event, and the day will finish with a trip to watch the Tour of Britain cycle race finish and/or a local hostelry.

BRISTOL CULTURAL TOUR - with Martin Siegert

We'll also come across evidence of glaciation in Bristol and we might - but only if we have time - go to a few pubs to sustain us on the journey.
